I would like to take this opportunity to discuss something very troubling taking place in St. Landry Parish that could potentially bankrupt the Parish. For some time, the Justice department has been monitoring Evangeline and St. Landry Parishes for Civil Rights violations such as voter suppression and police brutality.
Here is what concerns me about the allegations (let me make this clear that these are allegations and have not been confirmed): In Washington Village, the police chief is under fire for seizing dangerous Pit Bulls as well as commiting acts of brutality. There has been even talk of the Rev. Al Sharpton coming to Washington to stir up trouble.
There is so many cases that I could talk about but my concern is that the reason for all of this foolishness is the childish behavior among some of the elected officials in St. Landry Parish. I am afraid to say this but if the elected officials do not stop this type of behavior, bankruptcy could be a major reality for St. Landry Parish.
There are good elected officials such as Opelousas Mayor Cravins and Sheriff Guidroz, there have been numerous instances of Parishes/Counties all over the south going bankrupt from Civil Rights cases and the only one who can stop this ticking timebomb is the elected officials of St. Landry Parish.
